Growing as a photographer is non stop. Learning new things, trying new things, and offering new services. I always want to be able to do more. Photography is not an easy job. Yes it is flexible and yes I get to work from home but there is so much that goes in to it. Every year since I started my photography journey, I have invested in a photography class or workshop. They have covered everything from shooting in manual (waaaay early on in my journey at a landscape course in Germany). How to work with lighting and models at another workshop. Newborn courses (don’t let anyone fool you, its the hardest of them all…but also the sweetest) Editing classes, more lighting classes, all of that on top of countless hours and years of practice. Newborn for me has been the hardest to master and I am still learning. Where exactly do those fingers go, how should the light placement be, wrapping…oh lord the wrapping. If anything gets me, its wrapping a baby! As the years come and go I have definitely gotten better and I love (and maybe a little cringe) the early photos, I’ve come a long ways but still have a long ways to go. I will forever keep learning and getting better for my clients. I will forever invest in props that make your sessions more beautiful and on trend. That harsh flat lighting and crazy color combo was never in style in 2015 but I worked what I thought was magic. I was happy with the photos but I knew I was no where near where I should be. I had cheap lighting that did nothing for me though I felt like it did. I struggled for so long trying to get images that were close to what I needed with what I could afford at the time. Since then I have invested in some amazing lighting, some great props, and have learned so much.

I love newborns and have put a lot of time and investment into giving you a great experience. There are other photographers out there who may be cheaper but they might not be able to give you the quality, patience, and service that DT-Photography provides. I had the cutest little newborn in my studio for her very first session. Newborn sessions are some of my favorites because I get to hold and see those cute little babies. Ava was such a beautiful girl but she was not a sleepy girl. She wanted those bright eyes open to see the world around her. I love all the faces they make when they are awake with eyes wondering around the room checking everything out. Miss Ava was a little older than some of my other newborns and that is OK! Ava loved to feed and go right to sleep, pose for a bit and repeat. She would stay asleep through one setup and then would make us work for it all over again. Patience is key when it comes to newborns, I never know if I am going to get a sleepy baby, awake baby, baby who doesn’t mind being naked or would rather be wrapped! Newborns…the first stage of life and man is it the cutest stage! Those tiny lips, fingers, and feet, squishy bellies, and back rolls. Babies change so quickly. Hair changes colors or grows in more. Their eyes start to turn to their true color and you can see who they start to favor more in the family. With newborns growing so fast, it’s the perfect time to take their photos. A little over 4 years ago, me and my husband purchased an old house in Olivia to renovate into the DT-Photography Studio. What a big opportunity this was for my business in regards to what I could now offer my clients. As good as it was, it definitely needed a lot of work. We started slow and got most of the outdoor area cleaned up by cutting down trees, cutting back overgrown bushes and cleared some wisteria that was taking over. We redid some electrical and some plumbing, ripped out old carpet. The inside walls, trim and fireplace got a makeover with some fresh paint. All these little things have added up but I haven’t felt like its ever been quite ready to do a big reveal. This year, I feel like we are there! In the coming weeks I will be showing what we have done since we first bought, what we call, the “Olivia House” I am excited for anyone who hasn’t been to my studio before to see what we have to offer for your photo session experience, those that haven’t been in a while to see the new items and remodeled rooms that suit your needs and returning clients to always feel like DT-Photography is doing what we can to always give you the best with new ideas, props, and so much more. This school year is definitely one for the books, am I right? Who would have thought there would be a time when our children wouldn’t be able to go to school. With no school, they miss out on so much. Whether its their first year in school as a kindergartner or their last year of school as a senior…and all the in betweens of starting a new school like middle or high school for the first time. This also means, the first year where your children won’t have their yearbook or school photos taken, its not just back to school photos, its their “virtual learning” school photos for the year. Dylan Turns One! Dylan is often referred to as Dyl in his house so it only made sense that he have a dill pickle party theme! How cute is that? I contacted my cake lady and asked her to make a “pickle cake” we didn’t want it to taste like pickles but just have some cute pickles on top made of rice crispies.

What a year to be 16! You can’t really have a big party or get together without worrying about the dreaded pandemic. It’s affected so much in our daily lives that we probably usually take for granted. 16 is a big number for a teenager…getting your drivers license, maybe working for the first time, and a new found sense of independence. Its a great year but does this year worrying about Covid-19, does it make it harder to enjoy?
