What to Wear: Summer Guide

I have lots of time right now…like…lots of it to work on things for my business. New sessions to offer, returning sessions that are my most popular and organizing and cleaning the studio. But what I haven’t done is anything for my clients and those excited about booking sessions once the “stay home” order is lifted. So I came up with a What to Wear: Summer Guide to help you plan your best outfits for great prices. I know I have said before how much I LOVE shopping at Amazon. Are you aware that small town shops and boutiques can have an amazon store?! This makes it easy for you to support businesses with all the guarantees of amazon. And what about that Prime shipping? You really can’t do much better than that! So with that said, lets take a look at some outfits that go together in combinations you might not have though of. Patterns and colors, don’t be afraid of them! Much like fall you can bring out so many great colors, just keep them brighter or softer instead of muted tones. Remember to picture yourself with everyone for individual and group shots. Mom with both kids, father/son, mother/ daughter, couples etc. Make sure everyone matches without being the exact same. Have any questions about your session outfit? Contact me at DT-Photography or through my Facebook page for advice! Any link provided is an affiliate link and I may earn a small commission off anything bought through the link.

Lets start with a safer color and design choice of outfits. While I went with the traditional Man/Woman/Son/Daughter you can add or subtract however you need. If you have older kids or younger than what is shown, you should still be able to draw from these ideas!

Why this works for anyone…This dress can be great for women of all shapes. The V-neck and cinched waist right under your bust can accentuate anyone. Pair with a cute strappy sandal and roll your sleeves up. Keep things simple and matching without being too match’y. Pull in light blues in multiple places without everyone wearing them in the same order. Dark on top, light on bottom goes great with dad’s light on top/dark on bottom without clashing. Perfect for father son shots. Find the dress here: Teen boy shirt: Boy Shorts:

Burgundy is such a great color, it stands out against all the green of grass and trees. Its such a great rich color for the summer time. You can tone it down with neutrals and pinks.

For any age group you can find great items for girls and boy from toddler to teen! Tween to Teen girls can find great off the shoulder solid burgandy or floral prints much like the little boys button up. If you have a teen boy, choose a pair of burgandy shots with a plain or printed shirt. Men can stay neutral with white/creams/khakis to tie everything together. Take the ideas and see what you can find. Womens Kimono can be found here: Girls Romper: and men’s linen shirt:

Yellows are the ultimate summer-y color. You can pair it with light colors, brown, neutrals and blacks. I love yellow in wild flowers and in greenery, its a great compliment to any outdoor session. Aim for a mustard or darker yellow instead of a bright yellow.

This look has a more dressy casual feel to it. A mens henley shirt with the sleeves pulled up and some nice casual brown dickies are what keeps this look from being too over powering. For women of all sizes, this oversized casual dress is both beautiful and comfy. Pair with a great strappy sandal and long necklace to complete the look. Bring in the pops of yellow in the children. If you cannot pull off the yellow color, its a great way to bring it into outfit colors to compliment you. I love amazon for the little girl outfits you can find! Get it here at: Womens Dress:

Green and orange have an island vibe and are the color trend of the season. Green and orange compliment each other perfectly for summer. Blend in perfectly to a green scenery adding in lighter colors and a little bit of orange.

Women of any size can benefit from this dress, it hugs in all the right places while still being flowy. For men and boys, try finding shorts or pants in orange and green to spice it up a bit from your traditional khaki and blue jeans. Find the girls romper here: Womens dress: Mens Pant Joggers:
